Case Studies
Risk Assessment
Recently, E.I. Dupont needed assistance analyzing potential changes to the registration for Cyanazine. They chose The Paulsen Group to perform probabilistic runoff modeling on 105 soils in several counties across the Midwest. Using a GIS to illustrate the distribution of those soils, The Paulsen Group was able to help Dupont determine what soils would be good targets for rigorous implementation of Best Management Practices (BMPs).
Field Research
Two pesticide registrants needed to investigate the detection of pesticides in surface water reservoirs. To do this, The Paulsen Group used a truck mounted GPS and a portable GIS to map the crop type, tillage practice , soil type, and runoff pathways in selected watersheds. The resulting maps showed the fields that most likely contributed to the pesticide detections and allowed for site specific BMPs to be implemented. This type of stewardship project helped build good will with the regulators. It also improved customer communication and education.
Stewardship
Under the Acetochlor Registration Project (ARP), Monsanto and Zeneca needed to produce over 300 county scale maps showing potentially sensitive ground water areas. Monsanto and Zeneca chose The Paulsen Group to produce the maps quickly and cost-effectively. The maps are now posted on the World Wide Web for use in stewardship programs. Take a look for yourself at www.arpinfo.com and choose the “detailed mapping link” or see the ARP home page for links to the county maps.
